Thursday 13: My 13 Spring Closet Must Haves + Lumpy Loves Kids {a good cause}

It's Thursday! Hip Hip Hooray! That means my Mr. comes home tonight. He's been out of town all week long for work. I can't wait to have him home. It also means it is time to link up for some Thursday 13 fun. But before I get to that I have to tell you about "Lumpy Loves Kids".
My four year old nephew Brock is ambitious and witty. He is small in stature but has a larger than life personality. Sometimes I wonder where this kid comes up with the things that he does. He always keeps our family laughing. It turns out that he also has a heart of gold and is determined to serve others. My sister said that Brock and his older brother Pierce have been wanting to raise money to help sick kids in the hospital. The other day he came home from school so excited for a way to do such a thing: His school is hosting a St. Jude's Trike-A-Thon. Brock asked his mom if she would give him $1000, when she asked why he simply said, "Because mom, no kid should be in the hospital and I need to ride my bike super fast to get them out." I am sure you have all heard of St. Jude's hopsitals, they are so amazing. Whenever I watch the commercials they make me cry and I have always wanted to donate because children deserve the best! If you are feeling generous please go to Brock's Trike-A-Thon page and make a donation. Any donation would be great! $1, $5, $10 - whatever you are willing to give would be greatly appreciated!!

And on to Thursday 13. Here are the 13 things that are a must have for me this Spring.

1. Colored Skinnies. I am obsessed. I have Coral, Yellow, Mint, and Light Blue. And I pretty much want every color out there.
2. Chambray. Say it with me: (shmbr). I just ordered my Chambray shirt from Shade Clothing for only $9.99+they always have free shipping. I can't wait for it to come in the mail. I have so many plans for that shirt!
3. Floral prints. Floral shoes, floral shirts, floral dresses. Floral is so appropriate for spring time!

4. Stripes. Ok. So it's not just a Spring thing, I have been obsessed with stripes for a little while. If you wear them right they can be so flattering. A perfect pairing? Striped top with colored skinnies: color blocking at its best! I'm actually wearing a navy striped top with my mint skinnies today!

5. Layers. In Utah spring weather is all over the place. One day it is 80 degrees and 2 days later it is snowing outside. That is why layers are essential. The day might start out chilly so a blazer or cardi is necessary. Then you can just ditch it later on in the day once it starts to warm up. Here are a few I am loving:

6. Maxi Dress. I think it is the most comfortable dress out there. Plus it will hide my not so tanned legs until summer time comes.

7. Spring Scarves. Because I think a scarf can completely spruce up your outfit...turn something old into something new with just an accessory!

8. Wedges. They are the perfect shoe for Spring time. I always seem to buy a new pair of wedges when Spring time comes around. It just gets me so excited for spring time weather.

9. Sunglasses. It's not quite summer...but summer is fast approaching. After April Showers comes the sun...hopefully!
I need some sunglasses like this:
10. Mint Handbag. Mostly because I just want one really bad.

11. Neutral make-up. I generally wear neutral make up just because I think it looks best on me. I love the look of the soft make up on this model. Perfect for spring:

12. Bright Colorful Nail polish. My favorites right now? Banana Republic "Yellow" & Savina "Blue for You"
13. Sunshine. The most importang thing about Spring time is more Sunshine. Here's to hoping for warmer weather!

Whitney

Thursday 13: Favorite Places

It's thursday and I have been hard at work for the past two days painting my house. It's done and it feels oh so good. Now comes the fun part...decorating! I can't wait. Next week I am going to bust out my brand new sewing machine and attempt to make some Roman shades for my kitchen. I will definitely be sharing that with you. On another note, I am linking up with this week's Thursday 13 - Favorite places. Because two days ago it was 80 degrees and today it snowed like crazy....wishing I was in my #1 favorite place which is:

#1. Kauai. Perfect weather, perfect beaches, perfect shave ice, perfect everything. The only thing that is not perfect is that I am not there right now!
#2. Costa Rica. Best beaches and best sunsets...hands down. Plus there are monkeys...can't beat that!
#3. The Mountains. We go camping and hunting every year and I look forward to it. I love being outdoors. The serenity and the beauty is breathtaking.  We are lucky to be surrounded by mountains.
#4. The San Diego LDS temple. I have always thought it was the most gorgeous temple and had been dying to go. My brother in law was married there this last December and it is just as gorgeous as I dreamed it would be.
#5. Italy. So I have never been to Italy but I have been obsessed with going ever since I can remember. I would be perfectly happy to go on a 3 week tour of just Italy. Someday....
#6. NYC. It's been a LONG time since I have been to New York City and I was a lot younger but one thing I really remember about New York is that I loved it. My girlfriends are going on a trip there in the next few days and I am totally bummed that I wasn't able to join them. I am dying to go there again.

#7. Chichen Itza/Cancun Mexico. I love Chichen Itza. I have been to Cancun twice and went to Chichen Itza on both trips and I would go again and again and again. I love going on trips that keep me busy and I love sight seeing. I want to take my hubby to see the ruins someday. I also climbed up the big temple in Chichen Itza back when they used to let you still do that (about 6 yrs ago). It was scary, the stairs are really steep and yes,  I might have cried a little bit.
#8. Cucina Toscana. My Favorite restauarant. Remember? We go there every year for our anniversary. Best.restaurant.ever.
#9. Washington D.C. Like I said, I love sight seeing and there is SO much to see in D.C. Plus, my sister lives there. My mom is headed out there next week and I asked if she could fit me in her bag...I'm a little jealous. I went out there twice in 2010, I think it is time to go back....
(I am 27 weeks prego in this pic)

#10. Anywhere that my dad is cooking. As I have mentioned before, he is a professional chef and you can guaruntee that whenever he is cooking for you that you are in for a treat. No big deal, we just have Bananas Foster for dessert on sunday or Kobe beef... you get the picture. Only the best with my dad! You might even get lucky and get served something like this:

#11. Home. I love being home with my family. Definitely one of my favorite places to be. Because:
#12. Zion's National Park. The high cliffs and red rocks are stunning. I love hiking even though I am terrified of heights. Last time we went I hiked Angels Landing, and yes, there were tears but it was so worth it.

#13. Last but certainly not least, Lake Powell. We used to go every summer with family friends and it was the best time of my life. Warm water, skiing, waverunners, sun bathing, knee boarding and sleeping on top of the houseboat. We went with my in laws 4 years ago, trying to convince them we should go again...

Thursday 13: Things I am Thankful for

In no particular order:

1.  Camron. Because he is my other half. He literally makes me whole. Not sure how I would survive life without him.
2. Mia. She is my sunshine and what makes life worth living. She brings joy to my heart, more joy than I have ever felt and it is EVERYDAY!
3. My family. My own little family, my side of the family & my in-laws. They are all not only family but are some of my best friends.
4. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. It is what I believe in and know to be true. I can't imagine life without the faith, happiness, and comfort that it brings.
5. In-Vitro Fertilization. Because without it I would not have the most amazing gift - My sweet baby girl, Mia. I will have to share my story with you someday.
6. Best Friends. Especially those who run agonizing amounts of miles with me even when they don't have to. Or those who are there to support me or are just there to listen to me. Those friends who I don't see all the time but as soon as we get together its like we were never apart. Girls nights out with my BFFs is sometimes the pick me up that I need.
7. Running. Because it helps me to set and reach goals. Even when I am hating myself for running so many miles and asking myself why in the world would I sign up for a marathon each time I complete an outrageous amount of miles (like 17 last friday!) I feel like I have accomplished something big.
8. Dark Chocolate. It is sometimes what gets me through the day. Speaking of which, I made myself some Dark Chocolate ice-cream. It is just waiting for me as soon as I am done blogging.
9. Being a stay at home mom. It is the best job I have ever had. It is hard work. I am not just a mom but I am an EVERYTHING mom and it is not 40 hours a week it is 24 hours a day/7 days a week. But I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world.
10. My House. So it isn't perfect and right now it is pretty bare and in the preparation stages for some painting, new flooring, baseboards, etc. But I love having a place to call my own and slowly but surely it will start to feel less like a house and more like a home.
11. Reading. I love to read. I grew up loving to read. When I was younger I would read novels in one day. My mom would get frustrated because she would buy me a new book and I would have it read by the end of the day. I am currently in a book club within my neighborhood and I love how it gives me the opportunity to read books that I might not have chosen for myself. Also, it forces me to make time to read.
12. Spring Weather. It is finally starting to warm up and I am able to spend some time hanging out and playing with Mia outside. Good thing, because I was starting to get a little stir crazy from being locked up inside all winter long!
13. Blogging.  Because sometimes I am just not in the mood but once I sit down to blog I feel so much better. I have kept a personal/family blog for 4 years now, I treat that blog like my own little scrapbook/journal and it keeps my family up to date with what is going on in our lives. And I love having this blog to ramble on about whatever I feel like. It has pushed me to try new things - I am excited for where it will take me next.

Happy Thursday!

XOXO,
Whitney
